Who is this for?
This qualification is intended for learners who already hold an SIA Door Supervisor licence and seeking to renew their licence after April 1st 2025.
Pre-Requisites:
This qualification is aimed at learners 18 years and over who are able to undertake the responsibilities of a Door Supervisor.
Learners must hold a full Level 2 Door Supervisor qualification issued on or after April 1st 2021, or hold an older qualification supported by a ‘Top up’ qualification to achieve equivalency. Unfortunately, learners who hold a qualification issued prior to April 1st 2021 and have not completed a ‘Top up’ qualification are not eligible to complete this ‘Refresher’ qualification and are required to take the full Level 2 Door Supervisor course again.
English Language
Due to the nature of the role of a Door Supervisor, in the course of their work it is likely they will be required to make calls to the emergency services or need to communicate to resolve conflict. It is therefore essential that Door Supervisors are able to communicate effectively.
All assessment must be conducted in the medium of English and/or Welsh as appropriate. Centres must ensure that learners have sufficient language skills before putting the learners forward for assessment.
As a guide, learners should as a minimum have language skills equivalent to the following:
Learners should be able to communicate fluently in English language.
First Aid Qualification
It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid*. To meet the requirements of the Manchester Arena inquiry, Volume 2: Emergency Response, recommendations R140 and R141. It is expected that all First Aid certificates presented are representative of the inclusion of the management of Catastrophic Bleeding and the management of Airways.
*QNUK will accept any regulated Emergency First Aid at Work qualification (or higher) until 1st April 2025 to support the first aid prerequisite for this qualification, providing the learner can provide evidence the qualification includes the training and assessment of the above additional requirements.
*On and after 1st April 2025 QNUK will only accept the Emergency First Aid at Work (Security) qualification or Pre-hospital qualifications to meet the directions of the Manchester Arena inquiry, Volume 2: Emergency Response, recommendations R140 and R141, and additional security operative specific content such as serious incident triage, management of spiking and acid attacks.
If learners already hold a valid first Aid qualification prior to attending the course, this certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. Centres are required ensure the course included the management of catastrophic bleeding, and to submit a copy of the learner certificate to support the course evidence.
Training centres are permitted to deliver suitable First Aid qualifications together with security qualifications as part of a training package. All first aid training must be completed and passed prior to the submission of paperwork associated with this qualification to QN.
Physical Intervention
Learners are advised that this qualification includes a Physical Intervention unit which will require learners to engage with the practice of physical skills and contact with other learners. This will not require a higher degree of fitness than typically associated with the ability of general manual handling (light loads, turning and average range of movement in all limbs). Reasonable adjustments can be applied for learners with chronic physical difficulties or disabilities; however, the adjustments are limited to the application of certain techniques and the learner must still achieve the same outcome as learners not in receipt of reasonable adjustments. It is not permitted for training providers to provide adjustments which are unlikely to be able to be applied or available in the workplace of a Door Supervisor. If you have any concerns or doubts in relation to performing the physical (or other) requirements for this qualification, please speak with your training provider in advance of booking onto a course to enable you to make an informed decision towards this being the right qualification to pursue or look towards an alternative pathway.
It should be advised that when applying for an SIA Licence part of the process includes a criminality check (DBS). It is recommended that learners with concerns should use the Criminal Record Indicator, available on the SIA website prior to enrolling on this qualification, to ascertain if they are likely to achieve licenced status.
